Legal practitioners
Welcome to the legal practitioners section.
Legal practitioners can get involved in the recovery process directly and indirectly when people who are injured as a result of a road crash or a workplace accident or illness seek compensation. For this reason it is critical that lawyers are familiar with what constitutes evidence-based, best practice assessment, health treatment and rehabilitation and that they know how their clients can get access to it.
Although at this stage TRACsa's core funding comes from the Motor Accident Commission (MAC), and its focus is on improving recovery from injuries arising from road crashes, the recovery process has much in common with that associated with injuries arising from the workplace. Health providers are therefore keen to see that, wherever possible, and despite the differences between the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) and workers compensation schemes in SA, a consistent approach to best practice assessment and treatment is applied across both compensation sectors.
The effort to achieve a consistent view across compensation sectors about what constitutes effective and high quality health care, does not mean in any way that the nature of either scheme is being altered.
We envisage a strong program of work to ensure lawyers not only develop a better understanding of these issues but also that they have easy access to information and resources that assist them in their day to day work.
This page will soon contain information about the program of work which will be developed in partnership with the Australian Lawyers Alliance and the Law Society of South Australia (in consultation with the Best Practice Taskforce, which includes a representative from the legal profession).
